Nienke Bakker è curatrice senior dei dipinti presso il Van Gogh Museum. Come ricercatrice del Museo ha collaborato alla realizzazione di numerose mostre e pubblicazioni sulla vita e sull’opera di Vincent van Gogh. È coautrice di Vincent van Gogh, Painted with words: The letters to Emile Bernard (2007), The real Van Gogh: The artist and his letters (2010) e Picasso in Paris 1900-1907 (2011), in Van Gogh at work (2013), e co-curatrice di Vincent van Gogh – The letters: The complete illustrated and annotated edition (2009).
