Hans Luijten è ricercatore senior presso il Van Gogh Museum. Insieme a N. Bakker e L. Jansen ha curato Vincent van Gogh, Painted with words: The letters to Emile Bernard (2007) e Vincent van Gogh – The letters: The complete illustrated and annotated edition (2009). Attualmente sta lavorando a una biografia della moglie di Theo van Gogh, Jo Bonger (1862-1925).
